R-134a (tetrafluoroethane) is a single-component HFC refrigerant used across automotive air conditioning, residential air conditioners, household refrigerators, and small commercial refrigeration units. It carries a global warming potential (GWP) of 1,430 and is classified as non-flammable (A1 safety class). This 30 lb cylinder is packaged for professional technician use.
R-134a is the standard refrigerant in automotive AC systems in vehicles manufactured prior to approximately 2014 — model year varies by manufacturer and region. Newer vehicles typically require R-1234yf; always verify the vehicle’s required refrigerant type before service. R-134a is not interchangeable with R-1234yf. For residential and refrigeration applications, use only in equipment specifically designed and rated for R-134a.
As a single-component refrigerant, R-134a does not fractionate during charging and may be charged as vapor or liquid per system specifications. The 30 lb cylinder includes a standard 1/4″ flare valve fitting compatible with professional service equipment.
R-134a must be recovered using EPA-approved equipment — venting is illegal under federal law in the United States. Subject to purchase and handling regulations in certain regions.
