R-407C is a zeotropic HFC-blend refrigerant (R-32/R-125/R-134a) widely used as a retrofit and service replacement for R-22 in residential air conditioners, heat pumps, and light commercial cooling equipment. Its thermodynamic properties closely approximate those of R-22, making it one of the more commonly adopted R-22 alternatives for existing system retrofits. R-407C operates at pressure and capacity characteristics similar to R-22 in compatible systems. As a zeotropic blend, it must be charged as a liquid to maintain correct refrigerant composition; temperature glide should be accounted for during system setup. Prior to retrofit, technicians should assess lubricant compatibility, replace the filter-drier, and evaluate whether TXV adjustment is required — in accordance with equipment manufacturer guidelines.
